TYCHO: Getting Started
Running tycho6
- For details on obtaining and setting up TYCHO, see the TYCHO setup page.
- For details on obtaining and setting up PGPLOT, see the PGPLOT setup page.
- After unpacking the tycho-6.0 tarfile, setting up
pgplot, and compiling
tycho6 if necessary, go to the main tycho directory:
/tycho-6.0
- Copy the desired initial model to the file
/tycho-6.0/imodel
- Edit the file /tycho-6.0/params.d
to change the number of time steps line to
' Number of timesteps for this run...........' 'll' 5
and the pause option line to
' Pause each time step (0=no)................' 'ipause' 0
- type tycho6
This will cause the code to take five steps and keep the graphics
windows with a pause statement.
If all went well, you have run tycho6 briefly.
Understanding the on-line graphics windows.
TYCHO-6.0 uses both on-line graphics and off-line graphics. The on-line
graphics are shown in three PGPLOT xwindows described below.
Several auxillary programs
provide windows or postscript files for analysis and hardcopy
(see /tycho-6.0/README).
Testing your results against mine.
Two sequences aa and bb are provided in the distribution.
aa 1.0 solar masses 0 to 300 in 100 step intervals
bb 4.0 solar masses 0 to 500 in 100 step intervals
Sequences starting with u000000 (1 solar mass) and m400000(4 solar masses)
should give the same results. Be sure to name your runs u0 and m4
(or anything else not in conflict with existing files).
